MENTORING

Are you looking for some help and/or guidance with your art/art career? Not exactly sure of your next move?

Years of curating and jurying art, as well as having had the pleasure of working with hundreds of artists in my career as Director and before that Assistant Director of Front Porch Gallery have given me the opportunity to offer artistic and career advice to artists. My own art career has also taught me a lot, giving me insights that make me able to diagnose and offer suggestions on specific artworks as well as websites, marketing plans and overall trajectory of where an artist wants to go with their work and career. I offer an optimistic approach designed to build confidence and beat resistance.

Phone/Skype sessions are available at $75 per hour or 3 sessions for $195. Longer term programs can be arranged as well.

Working with Julie as my art mentor has surpassed all of my expectations. As a professional artist I had come to a point where my clarity of vision had become somewhat scrambled. I was working way too hard on too many diverse projects. Julie immediately changed that and put me (and kept me) on track with a blazing single focus. What a difference this has created! She makes me feel my work is important to her as she gently prods and pushes me forward always to a higher standard. Herself an accomplished, successful artist, she understands the plight of the artist and what it takes to make good art. Her keen eye as gallery director, juror, teacher and artist, she is the ideal mentor.

I will forever be grateful and love this wise, soft-spoke dynamo that believed in me and kept me reaching higher and higher with my art. What I’ve accomplished under her inspiring, yet judicious scrutiny has given me new vision that has made an impact on my entire life.

WORKSHOPS

Building A Strong Abstract is available as a 1, 3 or 5 day workshop.

This workshop is designed to guide artists through a series of exercises and processes leading to a layered approach to abstract painting beginning with playfulness and experimentation.

Depending on the length of the workshop artists can expect to work on a number of pieces and may complete a small or medium sized work. A primary goal is to develop confidence derived from building on small successes and a supportive group environment.
